Faces of Fremont Project

Process

CRP has been able to support different cohorts of John Christie’s art classes at Oakland’s Fremont High School.

Not only have they learned the basic technics of painting and drawing but how to be build deeper connections with their communities. Each student artist picked a community member of Fremont to paint, formatted questions and conducting interviews to compile imagery as the background for their portraits. They added different elements, compositions and colors to build up that background.

Focused in building sustainable and thoughtful arts programs for students in day time classes, we couldn’t have gotten this far without the support of the California Arts Council - Art Education Exposure grant and Fremont’s High school teacher, John Christie.
